Tasting the elusive carrot

Our lives revolve around expectations. Expectations that life, our society, work and people place on us. Some of the greatest expectations we have are those that we place on ourselves and this is generally formed by the expectations of others.

When we are in the process of trying fulfilling these expectations we have a certain drive or motivation to fulfil them as we go through life and when an expectation is fulfilled we find a certain satisfaction. This is because we have proved that we are something special.

Think about it, you might have an expectation to be the best in your profession, the best person you can be, or an expectation to become rich or to find happiness when you’ve reached a certain milestone in your life. And right now, you are not yet there, you have not proved it and cannot accept that you are special or the person you thought you could be.

This feeling or subconscious drive for fulfilment makes us attempt more, try harder and fight for what we want in life.

Some of us have reached our goals and found a level of satisfaction and then we set out to form new expectations that will give us more fulfilment in order to prove more things about ourselves. And so the cycle continues.

Some have failed miserably, disappointed themselves and others and have not had the courage to get up again and remain unfulfilled.

But is this really the way to a fulfilled life? Is meeting your own expectations really going to give you the joy and fulfilment that you want? Is proving a point to others and yourself really going to cut it? History kind of tells us that those who make their millions and reach their dreams are generally not fulfilled and become depressed after climbing the proverbial ladder. It seems kind of deceptive to think that one can reach the pinnacle of happiness by following this subconscious drive. There is always a higher ladder to climb and you never seem to quite reach the top. You might have accepted that this is just the way that life is, and seeing that everyone else is doing it like this it makes sense to do it anyway. Or we just keep on doing it and try to be better at it then other people.

Perhaps the greatest expectations we can have are those that we believe God has of us. If God expects something of me, I can never really relax until I’ve met that expectation. And quite frankly if God expects something of you now, he always will, and you will never quite reach His expectations of you. And if God is not satisfied with you not reaching expectations how on earth can you be satisfied in yourself?

Is this just the way things are or are we missing something?

Yes, we have missed something. We have missed the simple Gospel (good news). We have missed the point of life and Christianity altogether.

We are not to live up to a certain level of fulfilment but rather from a place of fulfilment.

We are not climbing the ladder to get more, we have already reached the top.

God is not expecting anything of you except that you be fulfilled in what His son Jesus Christ has already done for you.

You see, I am not trying to please God anymore, living my life in a way to meet expectations and obey certain rules so that I may be accepted, blessed or approved. I believe that Jesus in my place has been accepted, approved and that He has met all expectations.

I have died, all my attempts to meet expectations have died, and a new creation has emerged that is perfect and seated with Christ in heavenly places.

The focus in no longer on myself, or what I believe God expects of me, but my focus is on Him and that He has met all expectations, carried all sin and paid the whole price.

Rom 6:1It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

We are so quick to be entangled in a yoke of slavery and fall back into self-improvement, or find ways to reach fulfilment by attempting to do it our way, instead of seeing and accepting what He has done for me.

You see the whole problem is with what we see and believe.  If I believe that I am poor while missing the fact that I already have 1 Billion Dollars in my bank account, I will live poor and work my head of to get the money.

But if I see and believe that I have been made rich by the perfect Son of God, I will live like a rich man. This is not merely “the power of positive thinking” as positive thinking sometimes ignores the facts and makes me lie to myself in order to feel better. The power of positive thinking will eventually run out as my subconscious continually reminds me that I am lying to myself.

No, this is recognition of eternal, spiritual truth. This is a spiritual epiphany where you come face to face with the gospel facts. The fact that you have indeed died and have were resurrected as a new creation. The fact that you were accepted, forgiven and welcomed into the eternal embrace of your creator 2000 years ago regardless of who you are or your successes or failures.

Once this more powerful spiritual truth takes hold of you, it doesn’t just transform your spiritual life, but everything else too.

Now you no longer do things to get more, but you do things to give more of what you have already freely received.

You no longer start that business to reach the top, you start that business because you are overflowing with creativity and passion of God.

You no longer become a preacher because it is what God expects of you, but you become a preacher because you cannot shut up about this goodness of God.

The father of lies will always lie, and try to keep us climbing the same deceptive ladder, striving our lives away trying to reach that elusive carrot.

But the simple truth of the gospel declares that through Christ we could have tasted it all along!

Salt of the earth

Sometimes we as believers strive to find our calling and where the puzzle piece of our lives fit into this world. I think it happens a lot that we become anxious about our calling and living it out. We see and hear of others who do great things for God and some God uses mightily... (but maybe not you).

Its then easy for the "common" believer to feel left out and overlooked by God and then start to look at our works and what we have accomplished. This leads to feeling inferior, or prideful - a sick and worldly comparison.

But, you are the salt of the earth...

Salt adds taste to food, it also keeps meat from spoiling. We are believers, whether we perform massive things for God or not, are still the salt of the earth. Even if you do not say or do anything special, you are still the light of the world - exactly the same as the mighty prophet and the faith healer - there is exactly no difference.

Salt and light is what we are called to be. And we who are saved are already the salt and the light in this dark world. The problem is that we lose sight of this the harder we try to be something else.

Knowing this, gives us courage and motivation to just "be" who we "are".

"You are not of this world, but you are in this world". If you feel that you do not belong here and that you do not fit in with everything that is going on around you, don't sweat it, this is not your home. While we are journeying through this temporal life, we are sons and daughters of heaven walking amongst the darkness on this earth. We shine and we permeate everything around us by just being who we are - citizens of heaven, passing through.. Salt an light.

The doing part follows naturally and effortlessly and differently for each person after finding out who they truly are. So stop comparing yourself with someone else. Our comparing is usually based on the doing part and we forget that we are all one in Christ. No male nor female, slave or free, black or white, little believer or powerful preacher.

Be free and know that you are a christian. The word actually means, "a little Christ". You ARE a brother and sister of Christ and the spirit of the creator lives within you and me.

Colossians 3: 1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Let it be according to your faith

“Religion” is defined as trying to get something from God, that he has already given. It is living in unbelief. It is almost like you are saying that you need to do a few things right in order to get something from God. Once you have done those things, you feel qualified or disqualified to receive from God. And you probably might get what you then expect.


“Let is be according to your faith"


Religion keeps us endlessly occupied with self efforts. Looking to yourself and measuring your performance against others and God. You might give up after a while, or you might push yourself and become blindly self-righteous.


Faith, is the opposite. Turning your eyes completely away from your own perceived accomplishments or failures and putting them on the fully accomplished work on the cross. There where He has already qualified us all.


Its not about you anymore, it’s about Jesus and his cross. The cross where you died with him.

Revelations of eternal Truth

This life dictates to us. From the car you should drive to the house you should own, not to mention how you should feel about yourself based upon the opinion of others.

Are we losing our lives in search to fulfil our ambitions? Are we climbing the ladder only to find that it was against the wrong building?

Are we on an endless evasive pursuit for happiness?

I asked a friend the other day : So what will make you happy? She could not immediately reply. A few days later she came back to me with a simple answer. Only to feel that I belong.

Perhaps happiness and fulfilment is found in the small things. The simple and uncomplicated things. It seems that we have complicated life and fulfilment to such a degree that it becomes a rat-race to attain.

Perhaps its even more simple than that.

What if we could experience happiness and total satisfaction right now. What if we did not have to wait and labour many years before we could reach that which fulfilled us?

What if I told you something that would shake you awake from your sleep?

What if true fulfilment, joy and happiness was just an eye-opening away?

What if you could enter into the fullness of Life right now and come to the ecstatic revelation that you were blind all these years and that true and total fulfilment and joy is yours right now?

Its simple, but difficult to grasp because of the callouses and dictations this world gives us.

The simple truth is this :  In the death and subsequent life of the Cosmic Creator, you and I were mystically and eternally fused together with Him. It happend. Whether you believe it or not. You and I are already home. Forgiven, full, accepted, blessed, and eternally loved.

We already have more than we think we need.

The key to true fulfilment lies not in relentless ambition, but in revelations of eternal Truth.

Christianity is no Religion

Christianity was never meant to be a religion. A religion by definition is a means of humanity finding ways to bridge the gap to God. But Christianity reveals the exact opposite. It declares that God has incarnated Himself to bridge the gap. He has taken initiative while we could not or were not even interested. Faith now is simply believing God's initiative in declaring us innocent... His Son became the scapegoat. There is now no more effort on our behalf to reach God. He took all the effort upon Himself. This is the message God has planned to reveal to humanity throughout the ages. Those who hear and believe will find themselves face to face with their own creator, never to be separated again. They will find their true selves and live from the platform of innocence and total fulfilment.


And all these things are from God who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and who has given us the ministry of reconciliation. In other words, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting people’s trespasses against them, and he has given us the message of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:18, 19 NET)

The Benefits of death

We never stop to think of the benefits of death do we? You might find it strange that I have even chosen sucha title. What benefits could there be?

When a loved one passes away,we cannot help but be sad and reminiscent of the life that was past, and we pause and consider that such a person is now in a better place. We don’t see death as beneficial at all; we hate death, for it takes life, the essence of existence.Death steals life...or does it?


Have you considered what you eat? Have you considered that the food we eat brings us life? Without it we ourselves would die. But in the same thought, consider that all the food you eat for nourishment and growth is dead. All forms of food, whether animals, plants or seeds first have to die, or die in our stomachs to bring us life. So in a very real and beneficial way, the death of animals and plants provide and sustain us with life.

This example is not only seen in nature but nature itself speaks of a greater truth that was demonstrated by Jesus Christ. He lived, and died, and His death brought life to the entire cosmos. Without him dying, we would not be able to experience real life.

Death has a purpose and it is beneficial to us and essential for new life.

We can experience death at various levels in our lives - emotional, mental, spiritual and physical. A severe marital disappointment might kill you on the inside; you might eventually become spiritually dead because you keep on disobeying the voice of God deep within you, or you might become mentally dead after severe trauma, stress, overexertion and the like. The last death we are to experience is physical death – when we have come to the end of what our bodies can endure...

But for those who are believers in Christ, death has very liberating purpose.

In Paul’s own attempts to live as a devout Jew he found death:

Rom 7:9 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. 10 And the commandment, which was to bring life, I found to bring death. 11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it killed me.

Here we can see that the law brings death.

In essence the law is attempting to perform in your own capacity and strength.

But this death that the law produces has a definite purpose and that purpose is to bring us to a new kind of life.

Gal 2:19 For I through the law died to the law that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

Here Paul says the through the Law he died. In other words, it was the Law that killed him - His own attempts to live righteously towards God. It killed Him spiritually, so that he might be dead to the law but ALIVE to God.

You see, as natural men and women we are born in a sinful state. We are self-willed, self-pleasing, and most importantly we strive to be self-righteous. In our natural state, we are self-centered beings. And when you bring a self-centered being to God, that being naturally wants to be self-justified and become even more self-righteous.It seems to be the disease of human nature. We seem to want to do things ourselves and be proud of it. But in this we don’t at first realize the fallacy of it all.

The Law takes us from a false, self-righteous and empty state of living to an eventual guilty,self-loathing, and ashamed state. This then leads to an inner death if fully pursued. An eventual death to self-attempts.

But for us, Believers inChrist it does not stop there. This death is to bring us to the end of ourselves so we can take hold of the rope already passed to us.

God knows this deprived way of life and provides a way out, into the true nature of who we really are made to be. God’s intention is not that we should live in our fallen state of depravity, emptiness and failing self efforts but he wants to give us life, the life of His son, the Zoe breath and life of the Creator of the Universe pulsating through and filling every area of our minds, hearts, spirits and bodies.

But how do we get from our fallen state into this glorious, true way of being? We cannot do it ourselves,for that would once again amount to self-effort...It is something that cannot be attained, earned, or bargained for. The only way to inherit this Zoe Life of God is to die.

Col 3:3 - For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Rom 15:35 But someone will say, “How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come?” 36 Foolish one, what you sow is not made alive unless it dies. 37 And what you sow, you do not sow that body that shall be, but mere grain—perhaps wheat or some other grain. 38 But God gives it a body as He pleases, and to each seed


42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. 43 It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. 44 It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There isa natural body, and there is a spiritual body. 45 And so it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being.”The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

We died Spiritually with Christ and were already raised to new life with Him. Those who believe the Gospel find their inner selves dead in it’s own attempts to follow and please God as they realize how incapable they are. But in that death, the “self” died and conceded to Christ’s life through us. We were raised on the inside to New Life. We now find that Christ indeed lives within us.

Our salvation is not yet complete, for we have not yet died off all forms of old life. You might have died and be resurrected in your spirit and heart but your body is yet hindering the fullness of salvation...

In this day our salvation will be complete – Where we will be saved wholly at all levels as well as physically.

We as can look forward and embrace death as the catalyst for eternal life!


1 Cor 15: 50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption. 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed— 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”


55 “O Death, where is your sting?
O Hades, where is your victory?”


56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
